Guernsey Finance has appointed William Lewis Business Development Representative for the Insurance Sector.
According to the announcement, this is the first time a sector-specific Business Development Representative has been appointed, with objectives directed by both Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA).
The firm has said that this new appointment represents a step-change in the way the agency works in partnership with industry to achieve their shared goal of promoting and connecting Guernsey’s specialist financial services industry to the wider world.
Rupert Pleasant, Guernsey Finance Chief Executive, commented “Through discussions with GIIA we recognised that the insurance sector would benefit from having a dedicated business representative, as it is unlike the other specialist financial services sectors that we have here in Guernsey.
“We are thrilled to have taken this opportunity to work together with industry to now warmly welcome William on board, along with his wealth of experience in the insurance sector.”
Lewis has over 44 years of experience in the insurance market, and is currently a director of a Guernsey PCC.
He has acquired a broad range of knowledge across the sector, including the formation of Protected Cell Companies (PCCs) and extensive interaction with the Guernsey regulator. He also has experience dealing with UK and Lloyd’s regulators, has previously been the director of a Lloyd’s members’ agent and of a Bermudan Special Purpose Insurer.
Commenting on his appointment Lewis said: “Overall, my career has enabled me to gain a very broad and extensive knowledge of the global insurance and reinsurance markets, as well as an excellent understanding of what Guernsey has to offer, from captives to PCCs.
“I’m really excited to be joining Guernsey Finance through this innovative initiative, and to bring benefit to Guernsey’s economy.”
