THE POST – Business Development Manager (KTP)
The role holder will: operate with a high-degree of autonomy within a small team of five; be expected to deliver against clearly defined targets set by the Senior KTP Manager; follow established KTP bid development processes; utilise, maintain and, where necessary, enhance existing management reporting and business intelligence platforms, including but not limited to Dynamics 365; show initiative, identify, qualify and lead on the development of new KTP opportunities; cultivate and engage internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to: wider professional services colleagues, academics, School exec teams, KTP Associates, Businesses, Innovate UK KTN and a wide range of external business support organisations and innovation partners.
The successful candidate should have the following:
- Significant experience of business development, preferably within the HE sector and ideally within KTP, and able to demonstrate sustained delivery against targets;
- Experience of building multi-partner collaborative projects, managing without authority, and ensuring deadlines are met;
- Significant knowledge and expertise of the Office365 ecosystem and associated apps, ideally including Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive, Planner, Visio, Power BI and Power Automate.
- Experience of customer relationship management and associated CRM tools, ideally Dynamics 365

Our multi award-winning Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) Centre is a recognised centre of excellence in the provision of business development and post-award support services to those engaged in KTP projects with UWS. Noteworthy recent achievements include: #1 position in Scotland by KTP portfolio size, #1 position in the UK for management KTPs and securing the UK’s first African Agrifood KTP in Kenya.
As outlined in the University Strategy 2025, KTP is a strategic priority for UWS and we have ambitious plans for growth. We are therefore seeking to appoint an experienced business development manager, reporting directly to and working alongside the Senior KTP Manager, to accelerate portfolio growth whilst maintain exceptional customer service for our internal and external stakeholders.
